Is the Eldris EPR service only for Amazon sellers?
Summary
No. The EPR duty attaches to placing goods on a country's market, not to the channel. A seller on its own website or any marketplace, or a manufacturer selling direct, registers the same way, and Eldris serves businesses inside and outside the EU.

No. Eldris registers sellers on every channel, not only on Amazon. The duty attaches to placing goods on a country's market, not to the shop that took the order. Under Regulation (EU) 2025/40, Article 44(4), a producer registers before placing packaging on that market. A seller on its own website or any marketplace, or a manufacturer selling direct, registers the same way. A seller that sells only to businesses says so before paying, and Eldris confirms who the producer is. Eldris serves businesses inside and outside the EU.
Why the sales channel does not change the duty
EPR law ties the duty to the market where goods are first made available, not to the shop that sold them. A seller that sells directly to consumers in an EU country from abroad is the producer there for each stream. That holds for Amazon, any other marketplace and the seller's own website.
Each of the three EU acts says so in its own definition. For packaging, a seller that sells directly to consumers in another member state makes its packaging available there for the first time. It is the producer there and registers under Regulation (EU) 2025/40, Articles 3(1)(15) and 44(2). For electrical and electronic equipment, distance sales to consumers count under Directive 2012/19/EU, Article 3(1)(f)(iv). For batteries, the same rule sits in Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Article 3(47)(d). None of these definitions names a marketplace, a webshop or a shop front. For packaging, a business established in the country is a producer there too, when it first makes the goods available on that market. What decides your registrations is which countries your goods reach, which streams they carry and where you are established. How the buyer found you does not, and a registration in one country does not cover another.
Own websites, other marketplaces and manufacturers selling direct
Eldris serves independent brands, manufacturers and e-commerce sellers, not only marketplace sellers. The registration, the representative where the law requires one and the declarations are the same service whatever the channel. The price follows the countries you sell in and your product types, not the channel.
An own-shop seller gives Eldris the same six documents as a marketplace seller. They are the company certificate, a director's passport, any VAT certificates, a signed power of attorney per country, storefront proof and product photos. The storefront proof is a link to your webshop or marketplace storefronts, so an own-shop brand sends its own website. A manufacturer selling direct to consumers in another country is the producer there like any reseller, and uses the same registration service. Once you are registered, Eldris files the declarations, and reporting is included in the price under the terms, section 5.1. For each period you send the weight and number of units placed on each market, from every channel together. Estimates are accepted for the first registration. Each line is priced per country and per stream on the pricing page, with no line for the channel.
Selling only to businesses
A seller that sells only to businesses should say so before paying. Whether it is the producer then depends on the details of the sale. Eldris confirms who the producer is before you pay.
The articles in the first section describe sales to consumers at a distance. Business-to-business supply is not settled by them alone. Three cases depend on the details, as the quote's answers say: ex-works sales, sales only to businesses, and a buyer who acts as the importer. The answer can turn on the delivery terms, on who imports the goods and on who first supplies them in the country. Eldris asks for those facts rather than assuming either answer. Reply to your quote or use the chat, and say who buys, where the goods are delivered and who brings them in. A seller that also sells to consumers in a country from abroad is the producer there for those sales, as the first section sets out. Only the business share needs the closer look. The same holds for a manufacturer that supplies retailers or distributors as well as selling direct.
Sellers based outside the EU or outside the country
Eldris serves businesses inside and outside the EU, and a non-EU company registers with Eldris directly. Where the law requires an authorised representative, Eldris appoints it under the power of attorney you sign, and it is included in the price. Where a country bills that fee separately, its line shows the fee at cost.
The representative duty depends on where your business is established, not on the channel it sells through. A seller that sells directly to consumers in a country where it is not established appoints an authorised representative there for packaging, under Regulation (EU) 2025/40, Article 45(3). It does the same for batteries, under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Article 56(3). For electronics, it registers there through an authorised representative where it is not registered itself, under Directive 2012/19/EU, Article 16(1). The rule is the same for a company based in another EU member state as for one based outside the EU. The power of attorney makes Eldris your single point of contact, and the representative is appointed under it. A seller based outside the EU must also name a Responsible Person on its products before selling there, under the General Product Safety Regulation. That is a separate duty from EPR and is not part of the EPR price. Eldris covers it through its Responsible Person service at responsible.eldris.ai.
What changes off Amazon, and where the channel does matter
In the EU, nothing in the law changes when you sell off Amazon. What changes is the marketplace's own check: Amazon verifies the registration numbers for each of its EU marketplaces. On your own website no platform asks for the number, but the duty and the national regulator's enforcement are the same.
The law requires registration before goods are placed on the market, whichever shop sells them. A national regulator can fine a producer that sells unregistered. Amazon's Pay on Behalf handles eco-contribution fees in some countries, but it does not register you or give you a producer number. The checks country by country are on the marketplace requirements page. How fulfilment models move producer responsibility is set out in the guide for dropshippers and fulfilment sellers. In the UK the channel can change the answer. If you are based outside the UK and sell to UK households through an online marketplace, the marketplace has been the producer for those electricals since 12 August 2025. UK battery rules have no representative route. Eldris quotes UK registration only if you supply UK customers directly, as the UK registration page explains. This answer sits with the other questions sellers ask about EPR.
Frequently asked questions
I sell only through my own website. Can I use Eldris?
Yes. Eldris registers sellers on their own websites and on any marketplace, and manufacturers that sell direct. The duty follows the countries your goods reach and the streams they carry, not the shop. You send the same documents as any other seller, with a link to your webshop as the storefront proof.
Can sales off Amazon be reported too?
Yes. Eldris files the declarations for everything you place on each market, whichever channel sold it. For each period you send the weight and number of units placed on each market, and reporting is included in the price. Webshop orders and marketplace sales go into the same figures.
Can a company outside the EU register directly with Eldris?
Yes. Eldris serves businesses inside and outside the EU. Where the law requires an authorised representative, Eldris appoints it under the power of attorney you sign, and it is included in the price. Where a country bills that fee separately, the price list shows it at cost.
Does the price change if I do not sell on Amazon?
No. Each registration is priced per country and per stream, from the countries you sell in and your product types, not your channel. Scheme and authority fees are passed through at cost, never marked up, and most scheme charges follow the quantities you place on the market.
I make my products and sell them direct. Am I the producer?
If you sell directly to consumers in an EU country where you are not established, yes, for each stream you place there. For packaging, a business established in the country is the producer when it first makes the goods available there. If you sell only to retailers or distributors, describe it before you pay.
Do I need a Responsible Person as well as EPR registration?
If your business is based outside the EU, yes. It must name a Responsible Person on its products before selling there, under the General Product Safety Regulation. That is a separate duty from EPR and is not part of the EPR price. Eldris covers it through its Responsible Person service.
