What You Must Register in Belgium

WEEE EPR in Belgium is mandatory under the regional waste decrees that transpose the EU WEEE Directive, administered through the take-back organisation Recupel. Any producer selling electrical equipment to Belgian buyers on Amazon.com.be must hold a Recupel contract; battery products additionally require Bebat membership, and packaged goods require a Fost Plus (household) or Valipac (industrial) declaration. EPR registration in Belgium costs £295 for WEEE, £295 for Battery and £295 for Packaging with Eldris — each a one-off annual fee, never monthly. Amazon.com.be sellers must appoint these schemes before listings are compliant; without a Recupel or Bebat membership, Belgian electronics and battery listings can be blocked. Belgian Take-Back Organisations as Your EPR Identity

Unlike countries with a single national producer register, Belgium establishes producer identity through membership of the relevant take-back organisation: a Recupel adhesion number for electronics, a Bebat membership for batteries and a Fost Plus or Valipac declarant number for packaging. These contracts are what Belgian compliance hinges on.

A Recupel or Bebat number is purely Belgian — it cannot be substituted with a Dutch or German registration even within a Benelux Pan-EU setup. Eldris secures each scheme contract and delivers the membership evidence formatted for Amazon Seller Central.

What Makes Belgium Different

Three regions, one obligation: Belgium splits environmental competence between Flanders (OVAM), Brussels and Wallonia (OWD). Producer responsibility is harmonised through inter-regional cooperation agreements, but the regional structure means the take-back organisations — not a single federal register — carry the registration.

Specialist schemes per stream: Belgium uses dedicated organisations — Recupel (WEEE), Bebat (batteries) and Fost Plus / Valipac (packaging) — rather than one combined register. A seller with electronics, batteries and packaging needs all three, which Eldris arranges in a single onboarding.

Belgian Reporting Cycles and Deadlines

Belgian producer responsibility runs on an annual declaration cycle, typically with the previous year's quantities reported in the first quarter. Recupel, Bebat and Fost Plus each require a yearly statement of the units, weight and material placed on the Belgian market, from which environmental contributions are calculated.

Is the fee annual or monthly?

Each registration line is one payment a year, per country. There is no monthly billing. Each registration runs for 12 months from the date that country is registered and renews at the same price (Terms, section 5). Government, authority and scheme fees are passed through at cost, never marked up.

How long does EPR registration in Belgium take?

Why does Belgium need three different schemes?

Belgium organises producer responsibility by waste stream rather than through one combined register: Recupel for electronics, Bebat for batteries and Fost Plus or Valipac for packaging. Do Belgium's three regions each need a separate registration?
