What You Must Register in Hungary

WEEE EPR in Hungary is mandatory under the 2023 extended-producer-responsibility reform (Government Decree 80/2023), which made MOHU the single national concession holder for all waste streams. Producers placing electronics, batteries or packaging on the Hungarian market must register with the National Waste Management Authority (NWMA) and pay the EPR fee through MOHU. EPR registration in Hungary costs £555 for Packaging, £600 for WEEE and £495 for Battery with Eldris — a one-off annual fee, never monthly. Pan-EU Amazon sellers whose stock reaches Hungarian customers carry the obligation directly; without an NWMA registration, Hungarian fulfilment is non-compliant. The NWMA Register as Your Hungarian EPR Identity

Hungary centralises producer registration with the National Waste Management Authority (NWMA, Hungarian acronym OHKT). Registration places your products into the correct KF (product) codes and triggers the EPR fee charged through MOHU, the state concession company that operates collection nationwide.

A Hungarian NWMA registration is country-specific and cannot be replaced by an Austrian, German or any other EU number. Eldris secures the NWMA registration, assigns the KF codes, sets up the MOHU account, and delivers the confirmation formatted for Amazon Seller Central upload.

What Makes Hungary Different

Single state concession (MOHU): since 1 July 2023 Hungary has had no competing collective schemes — MOHU (MOL Hulladékgazdálkodási Zrt.) holds the exclusive concession, so every producer's EPR fee flows through one state-appointed operator rather than a chosen PRO.

EPR fee plus environmental product fee: Hungary historically charged a separate környezetvédelmi termékdíj (environmental product fee); the new EPR fee sits alongside the registration, and both must be administered correctly to stay compliant.

KF code classification: products are mapped to Hungarian KF codes that determine the fee rate. Hungarian WEEE sits at £600 and Battery at £495 one-off per year with Eldris, including the Authorised Representative.

Hungarian Reporting Cycles and Deadlines

Hungarian EPR reporting is quarterly. Producers declare the quantities and weight of electronics, batteries and packaging placed on the Hungarian market each quarter to the NWMA, and MOHU invoices the EPR fee from those declared masses.

Is the fee annual or monthly?

Each registration line is one payment a year, per country. There is no monthly billing. Each registration runs for 12 months from the date that country is registered and renews at the same price (Terms, section 5). Government, authority and scheme fees are passed through at cost, never marked up.

How long does EPR registration in Hungary take?

Can I use my German or Austrian EPR number in Hungary?

No. Hungarian producer responsibility is a separate national registration with the NWMA under the MOHU concession. A German WEEE-Reg.-Nr. or an Austrian EAK number is not valid in Hungary. Eldris reuses your existing business data to file the Hungarian registration without a second onboarding form.

What is MOHU and the NWMA?

The NWMA (National Waste Management Authority, OHKT) keeps Hungary's EPR producer register, while MOHU is the single state concession holder that operates all waste collection and invoices the EPR fee since the 2023 reform. There are no competing schemes. Eldris handles both the NWMA registration and the MOHU account.

Do non-EU sellers need an Authorised Representative in Hungary?

Yes, if they sell directly to consumers there. A seller established outside Hungary appoints an authorised representative in Hungary for packaging (Regulation (EU) 2025/40, Article 45(3)) and for batteries (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Article 56(3)); for electronics it registers there through an authorised representative where it is not registered itself (Directive 2012/19/EU, Article 16(1)).
