WEEE EPR in Austria is mandatory under the Elektroaltgeräteverordnung (EAG-VO), which transposes the EU WEEE Directive into Austrian law. Any producer placing electrical equipment on the Austrian market must register with the Elektroaltgeräte Koordinierungsstelle (EAK) before selling. EPR registration in Austria costs £405 for Packaging and £555 for WEEE with Eldris, each a one-off annual fee with no monthly billing. Amazon.de sellers shipping to Austrian addresses must hold Austrian packaging registration because Austria validates producer identity through ARA's licence number — without it, Pan-EU listings to Austria are at risk of removal. The EAK Register and Your Austrian Producer Identity

Austria issues producers a GLN (Global Location Number) and Registrant ID through the EAK clearing house, plus an ARA licence number for packaging. This Austrian identity is entirely distinct from Germany's WEEE-Reg.-Nr. and cannot be reused — even though both markets share Amazon.de.

Because Austria operates a clearing-house model, the EAK coordinates collection obligations across the country's collective systems while ARA handles the packaging licence. What Makes Austria Different

Clearing-house coordination: unlike single-scheme countries, Austria runs a coordination body (EAK) sitting above the collective systems. Producers register centrally with EAK, which allocates collection quotas. ARA runs a packaging system. Both the EAK registration and the ARA licence are required before Austrian listings are compliant.

Same marketplace, separate registration: Austria shares Amazon.de with Germany, which catches many sellers out. Fulfilling to Austrian buyers triggers a full Austrian EPR obligation regardless of an existing German registration — a frequent cause of unexpected Pan-EU listing blocks.

Austrian Reporting Cycles and Deadlines

Austrian producer responsibility runs on a quarterly and annual reporting rhythm. Producers declare the volumes of electronics, batteries and packaging placed on the Austrian market to EAK and ARA, with quarterly mass-flow returns feeding the annual reconciliation. ARA calculates packaging licence fees from the declared tonnages by material.

Is the fee annual or monthly?

Each registration line is one payment a year, per country. There is no monthly billing. Each registration runs for 12 months from the date that country is registered and renews at the same price (Terms, section 5). Government, authority and scheme fees are passed through at cost, never marked up.

How long does EPR registration in Austria take?

Can I use my German EPR number in Austria?

No. Austria is a separate national registration even though it shares the Amazon.de marketplace with Germany. A German WEEE-Reg.-Nr. or LUCID number is not valid in Austria — you need an EAK GLN and an ARA licence. Eldris reuses your existing business data to file the Austrian registration without a second onboarding.

Do I need ARA if I already have EAK registration?

Yes. EAK covers electronics and battery producer registration, but packaging is licensed separately through a system such as ARA. For packaged goods sold to Austrian buyers you need both. Eldris arranges the EAK registration and the ARA packaging licence together as part of the single Austria fee.

Does selling on Amazon.de to Austrian buyers really need Austrian EPR?

Yes. A seller that sells directly to consumers in Austria from another country, through Amazon.de or any other shop, makes its packaging available there for the first time and registers in Austria (Regulation (EU) 2025/40, Articles 3(1)(15) and 44(2)). Electronics and batteries sold at a distance to consumers there count too (Directive 2012/19/EU, Article 3(1)(f)(iv); Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Article 3(47)(d)).
