WEEE registration in Germany: cost and time

WEEE registration with stiftung ear through Eldris costs £600 a year and takes 6–13 weeks on average (our price list), with the authorised representative (where the law requires one), the stiftung ear registration fees and the annual reporting included. What You Must Register in Germany

If you sell an electronic product to consumers in Germany, you need WEEE and packaging registration at minimum; if the product contains a battery, battery registration as well. There is no volume threshold: a producer registers before it places any electrical equipment on the German market (ElektroG Section 6(1)).

The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) transposes the EU WEEE Directive into German law. WEEE registration is with stiftung ear, which issues your WEEE-Reg.-Nr.

What the Eldris Price Includes

Each German stream is one payment a year, with no monthly billing. WEEE (£600) covers the stiftung ear registration fees and an insolvency-proof guarantee for one EAR device category; the guarantee's cost depends on the category and is confirmed once it is known, and each further category is £255 once. Packaging (£185) covers the LUCID registration and dual-system participation. Batteries (£355) cover the registration and the scheme's annual contribution. The pricing table below lists each line's inclusions and the fees passed through at cost.

What Eldris Handles on Your Behalf

What Makes Germany Different

Insolvency guarantee (ElektroG Section 7): a producer of equipment that private households can use must prove an insolvency-proof guarantee for the cost of taking it back, every calendar year, and attach it to its registration application (Section 6(1)). Eldris arranges it as part of onboarding.

The marketplace must check: an online marketplace must not enable a producer's electrical equipment to be offered while the producer is not properly registered (ElektroG Section 6(2)).

Pay on Behalf is not WEEE registration: Amazon's own page says "EPR Pay on Behalf currently operates in Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and the UK" (checked 26 Sep 2026), so not Germany, and that "even if you're enrolled in EPR Pay on Behalf, you need to register".

WEEE Product Categories in Germany

Since 15 August 2018 all electrical and electronic equipment falls into one of six categories: temperature exchange, screens and monitors, lamps, large equipment (>50cm), small equipment (≤50cm) and small it and telecoms (Directive 2012/19/EU, Annex III, which the ElektroG applies). stiftung ear registers your device types within those categories.

Eldris's WEEE price covers one EAR device category; each further category is £255, charged once. If a product contains a battery, it also falls under battery registration.

Required Documents for Registration

To register you need company registration proof, product information including category and weight, and, if your business has no establishment in Germany, the written appointment of an authorised representative, in German (ElektroG Section 8). Eldris prepares and submits the documentation as part of the service.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Failing to register before placing equipment on the market, or placing it on the market while unregistered, is an administrative offence with a fine of up to €100,000, and so is failing to name an authorised representative (ElektroG Section 45(1) nos. 1, 3 and 7, and (2)).

Distributors must not offer, and online marketplaces must not enable the offer of, equipment from a producer that is not properly registered (ElektroG Section 6(2)).

Is the fee annual or monthly?

Each registration line is one payment a year, per country. There is no monthly billing. Each registration runs for 12 months from the date that country is registered and renews at the same price (Terms, section 5). Government, authority and scheme fees are passed through at cost, never marked up.

How long does EPR registration in Germany take?

Average time to register in Germany, from our price list: packaging 1 week; WEEE (electronics) 6–13 weeks; batteries 3–5 weeks; single-use plastics 2–3 weeks. The clock starts when we have your documents and signed power of attorney. These are averages, not guarantees.

Do I need an authorised representative for WEEE in Germany?

Yes, if your business has no establishment in Germany. ElektroG Section 8 requires such a producer to appoint an authorised representative, in writing and in German, and to name it to the authority before registering. Eldris includes it in the WEEE price.

What is Stiftung EAR?

Stiftung EAR (Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register) is the German register for electrical and electronic equipment. Producers register there with their device types and brands, and receive a WEEE-Reg.-Nr., before placing equipment on the market.

What is LUCID and do I need it?

LUCID is Germany's packaging register, run by the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (ZSVR). If you sell packaged products to consumers in Germany, you register in LUCID and take part in a dual system for that packaging.

What happens if Amazon rejects my WEEE number?

Check that the brand on the listing matches a brand registered with stiftung ear and that the registration is confirmed. Eldris resolves mismatches with stiftung ear.

Are insolvency guarantees mandatory?

Yes, for equipment that private households can use: ElektroG Section 7 requires the producer to prove an insolvency-proof guarantee every calendar year. Eldris arranges it as part of the service.

Where are the sellers on Amazon.de based?

The Sellers Index found 20,806 sellers with a recorded country on Amazon.de, last seen December 2025 to February 2026: 75.4% had a business address outside Germany, and 66.4% outside the EU. What documents do I need for Stiftung EAR registration?
